Summer has been crazy! Took another break from the blog. Now back in time for the new school year, here is a video of Adam Deitch playing some funk grooves (his specialty), and then talking about how he built up the skill sets to get his particular sound. This video is especially useful for those of you who are looking to expand your groove sensibility, and/or is helpful to add some tasty nuances to your current grooves.

So I took a little vacation from keeping up with the weekly drum videos but now I’m going to start up again!

Here is a video of one of my favorite drummers, Adam Deitch. Check out his tasteful use of fills and holding down a pocket while drumming to a Kanye and Jay-Z track.

WEEKLY DRUM VIDEO #29: Dave Grohl

Here is a of drummer Dave Grohl playing with Them Crooked Vultures. This is a supergroup made up of Dave Grohl (Nirvnana, Foo Fighters), Josh Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), and Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age).

This band is uber talented and is able to pull off a variety of odd/unusually interesting transitions and rhythmic ideas.

Enjoy 🙂

WEEKLY DRUM VIDEO #26: Steve Gadd

Steve Gadd is a session drummer who is on an outlandish amount of projects. He comes from a marching background and developed a unique style of playing that incorporates many different rudiments across the drumset. In this video he breaks down a few ways you can spread out rudiments across the drums with unique phrasing. He focuses on the styles he used for the Steely Dan album called Aja. Enjoy!
