Drum Video #46: Adam Deitch

Here’s a super dope video of amazingly talented drummer / producer / multi-instrumentalist Adam Deitch recording multiple takes of some super tasteful funk. I always love how many layers he gets into his grooves and how everything has a place and purpose. A major influence of mine! Adam’s playing comes from so many deep dives into the greats of funk. My close friend and legendary drummer Zigaboo Modeliste of The Meters (who recently won a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award) is a major influence of Adam’s. It was a blast to talk to Zigaboo about how much he loved what Adam’s up to. I highly recommend checking out both of these incredible musicians if you want to get more funk in your life!

Drum video #45: Jake Nochimow (me)

I thought I should showcase some of what I’m been up to with my own live drumming with my duo Modern Future®. We’re blending live drums, guitar, and keys while playing over original music production. This project is challenging and very rewarding. Click the link to follow us and stay in the loop for shows and new music! This video was shot and recording at 25th St Recording in Oakland, CA – where I am also the drum tech 🙂

DRUM VIDEO #41: Tony Royster Jr. vs. Thomas Pridgen

This is a video showcasing the crazy gospel chops of Tony Royster Jr. and Thomas Pridgen. These are some of the best gospel inspired drummers in the world and it’s insane to see them duke it out. Very much something to watch to learn from, but it’s a lot of craziness and not a lot of this stuff can be used in songs that aren’t prog rock, really busy, etc. but that’s why it’s a drum battle!

DRUM VIDEO # 37: Tony Royster Jr.

Tony Royster Jr. is an absolutely amazing, innovative, and technically mind-blowing drummer. He is most commonly known for being Jay-Z’s go to drummer for recording and live shows. This hour long video showcases many of his unique approaches to making music. He takes the time to answer questions as well as show some of what he can do/how he approaches the drums.
